Golden Globes 2012: George Clooney, Meryl Streep win Golden Globes

The 69th Golden Globe Awards this year 2012 had some starry names like George Clooney, Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep and Madonna landing major honours and \'The Descendants\' taking home the Best Motion Picture prize.Veteran actor Morgan Freeman honoured for his outstanding contribution to the world of entertainment.


George Clooney and Meryl Streep walked away with the Golden Globe trophies for best performance by an actor and an actress respectively in a motion picture - drama.

As Clooney bagged the Best Actor in a Motion Picture -Drama award for his role in 'The Descendants', beating superstars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, Streep won the Best Performance by an Actress in the same category for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady'.

'The Descendants' was nominated alongside 'The Help','Hugo', 'The Ides Of March', 'Moneyball' and 'War Horse'. Queen of pop Madonna's track 'Masterpiece' from her directorial venture 'W.E.' proved to be one as she took home the Best Original Song - Motion Picture trophy for the track.

Oscar winner Kate Winslet grabbed a globe for her performance in the mini series 'Mildred Pierce'. Veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese clinched the Best Director - Motion Picture for his 'Hugo', while Woody Allen took home the Best Screenplay award for 'Midnight In Paris'.

 Jean Dujardin was named the Best Actor in a Comedy Or Musical for his performance in 'The Artist', which was named
the Best Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical.The film was nominated alongwith '50/50', 'Bridesmaids','Midnight In Paris' and 'My Week With Marilyn', whose lead star Michelle Williams won in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical category.

'The Adventures Of Tintin' was named the Best Animated Feature Film.Veteran actor Morgan Freeman was honoured with the Cecil B DeMille Award.


The 74-year-old Morgan Freeman has acted in films like "The Shawshank Redemption", "Invictus", "Million Dollar Baby", "Deep Impact" and "Bruce Almighty" in his almost five decade-long career.

Freeman, who received a standing ovation from the Hollywood fraternity, was awarded by actor Sidney Poitier, who hailed him as "a prince in his profession".

Actress Helen Mirren too came on to share the stage with Freeman, and playfully chided about how the actor has done over 50 films in his career, and did only one - "Red" - with her.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Freeman made his acting debut at the age of nine in a school play, won a state-wide drama competition when he was 12, performed on a Nashville radio show while still in high school, danced at the 1964 World's Fair and first appeared on screen in 1965 as an extra in "The Pawnbroker".

He won a best actor Golden Globe in 1990 for "Driving Miss Daisy" and was nominated three more times -- for "The Shawshank Redemption", "Million Dollar Baby", for which he won an Oscar, and "Invictus".

The Cecil B. DeMille award winners are chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) board of directors and presented each year.
